지난 2월 26일 저희 교회에서 제9차 OC/LA 지역 가정교회 연합 목자/목녀 수련회가 있었습니다. 13개 교회에서 144명의 목자, 목녀님들이 참석하셨고, 행사 이후에 정말 은혜로운 수련회였다는 평가를 들을 수 있어 참 감사한 시간이었습니다. 이번 수련회가 은혜로울 수 있었던 이유를 생각해 보았습니다.

   첫 번째는 우리들의 기도를 응답해 주시고, 우리에게 회복을 주시려는 하나님의 은혜와 축복이었음을 확신합니다. 지난 몇 년간 지속 되어온 펜더믹과 세계 곳곳에서의 전쟁과 재난의 소식, 그리고 그로 인한 경제적인 침체와 인플레이션으로 우리의 상황과 마음은 참 어렵고 암울했습니다. 그런 어려움 속에서 지역 연합의 큰 행사를 하는 것이 쉬운 상황이 아니었음에도 불구하고, 하나님은 이번 수련회를 통해 지역의 많은 목자목녀님들의 지친 영혼에 새로운 힘을 주셨습니다.

   두 번째는, 수련회의 일정이 강의뿐만 아니라 다양한 프로그램을 시도한 변화가 좋았습니다. 목회자가 아닌 평신도 목자가 해 주신 리더십 강의에 목자 목녀님이 더욱 공감을 할 수 있었고, 평신도 목자님이 진행해 주신 목자 한 마당이라는 게임 프로그램을 통해 친밀함과 즐거움을 더할 수 있었습니다. 또한 결단의 시간 이전에 있었던 하덕규 목사님의 찬양이 모두의 마음을 열고 하나님께 찬양을 돌리며 결단을 헌신하는데  큰 몫을 감당해 주었습니다. 이 세 가지 모두 최고의 선택이었고, 모두의 예상을 뛰어넘는 최고의 프로그램이었습니다.

   세 번째는 우리 교회 성도님들의 귀한 섬김입니다. 과일 준비부터 의자 정리와 교실 세팅, 주차안내까지, 빠짐없이 꼼꼼하게 챙겨주신 우리 성도님들의 봉사로 인해 진행이 정말 순조로웠다는 평을 들을 수 있었습니다. 주일 예배와 봉사로 고단한 주일 오후 시간에 기꺼이 헌신해 주신 성도님들의 봉사로 우리 지역의 목자 목녀님들이 새 힘을 얻고 새 각오를 가지고 각 사역지로 돌아가셨습니다. 성도님들의 아름다운 섬김이 목자 목녀님들의 헌신으로 이어져 곳곳에서 복음의 씨앗으로 뿌려질 것입니다.

   모두 수고 많으셨습니다. 우리 미라클랜드 침례교회 성도님들과 목자목녀님들 모두 자랑스럽고 감사합니다.

We have finished the 9th Joint Shepherds’ Retreat superbly.

   On last Sunday the 26th of February, we had the 9th OC/LA Regional Joint House Church Shepherds’ Retreat.  We had 144 shepherds from 13 different churches, and afterwards we heard that it was truly a grace-filled retreat.  It was a thankful time.  I thought about reasons why the retreat could have been so grace-filled.

   First, I am assured that it was due to the grace and blessings of God who wishes to grant us restoration, having heard our prayers.  For the past few years, through the pandemic and so many news of wars and catastrophes from various parts of the world, and the resulting economic downturn and inflation, we have had our hearts in bleak and difficult situations.  Although it was not an easy thing to hold a big event for the regional association amidst such difficulties, God gave new strength to weary souls of many local shepherds and women through this retreat.

   Second, I liked the change in the schedule of the retreat, where we tried various programs, and not just lectures.  I was able to relate more to the leadership lecture by a lay shepherd and not clergy, and we were able to add time of intimacy and enjoyment through “Mokja Han Madang” variety hour, directed by lay shepherd.  Also Pastor Deok-kyu Ha’s praise before the Hour of Decision played a great part in all of us opening our hearts and giving praise to God before devoting ourselves to the decision.  All three were the best choices and all of them in the program had exceeded everyone’s expectations.

   The third is the precious service of our church members.  From preparing fruits to arranging chairs, setting up classrooms and providing parking information, we were able to hear reviews that the progress was really smooth thanks to the service of our members who meticulously took care of everything.  Through the service of the saints who willingly devoted themselves to Sunday afternoon worship and volunteer work, the shepherds in our region gained new strength and returned to their respective ministry sites with a new determination.  The beautiful service of the saints will lead to the dedication of the shepherds, which will be sown everywhere as Gospel seeds.
