김재원 전도사님이 오시면서 우리 교회는 유치부, 초등부, 청소년,  영어회중, 그리고 행정 담당 목회자까지, 교회의 각 분야에 목회자가 배치되어 평신도 사역자들과 동역을 할 수 있게 되었습니다. 저희 교회 규모에서 이렇게 목회자들을 모시고 동역할수 있는 것은 참으로 큰 축복입니다. 며칠 전, 타 교회 목사님들과 만나서 이야기 나누는 가운데 자연스럽게 저희 교회의 상황을 이야기를 하게 되었는데 다들 한결같이 부러워하였습니다.

     사실 많은 교회들이 영어권 목회자를 구하지 못하고 있는 실정입니다. 우선 신학생이나 목회자의 숫자가 전에 비해 많이 감소되었고, 기존의 목회자들이 목회를 내려놓고 다른 직업으로 이직하는 경우가 늘고 있으며, 무엇보다 영어권의 젊은 신학생이나 목회자들 중에서 이민 교회에 뛰어들어 헌신하고 싶어 하는 인원이 극소수에 지나지 않기 때문입니다. 이렇게 부서별 목회자를 세우기가 힘든 상황에서 귀한 목회자분들을 모실 수 있는 것은 저희 교회 입장에서 큰 축복입니다. 마찬가지로 목회자의 입장에서는 한 평생을 소명대로 전심전력을 다해 일할 수있는 주님의 교회를 만난 것이 크나큰 축복이 아닐 수 없습니다.

     저희 교회 모든 목회자들은 각각 자신이 담당한 사역 부서의 담임목회자라는 마음을 가지고 성실하게 사역을 해 나갈 것입니다. 지난주 구 목사님을 시작으로, 앞으로 한 달에 한 번은 저 외의 다른 목회자들이 돌아가면서 미라클 칼럼을 쓰도록 할 계획입니다. 자신이 담당한 부서뿐만 아니라 온 교회의 성도님들과 소통하는 기회를 마련해 주기 위해서입니다. 이렇게 본인의 사역과  여러 방법의 소통을 통해 목회자와 성도님들이 친밀한 관계를 맺어나갈 때, 성도님들께서는 지금까지와 같이 담임목회자처럼 다른 목회자들도 귀하게 생각해 주시고 사랑해 주시리라 믿습니다.

     이미 우리 교회 성도님들 중에는 부교역자들의 상황과 형편을 살피시며 물심양면으로 마음 써주시는 분들이 계셔서 너무도 감사합니다. “말씀을 배우는 사람은 가르치는 사람과 모든 좋은 것을 함께 나누어야 합니다.” (갈 6:6) 저희 목회자들은 이미 분에 넘치는 성도님들의 친절과 사랑을 받으면서 늘 감사한 마음을 가지고 있습니다. 이렇게 목회자와 성도들이 서로를 고마워하고 세워주는 것이야말로 건강한 그리스도의 교회의 참 모습 중에 하나입니다. 하나님께서는 이런 미라클랜드 침례교회를 보시면서 자랑스러워하시리라 믿습니다. 앞으로도 우리 교회는 하나님의 귀한 목회자들을 계속 세워나가고, 그리스도의 사랑안에서 서로 존중하고 연합하는 믿음의 공동체가 되기를 기도합니다.

A Church that Shares the Good Things

     With the arrival of pastor Jaewon Kim, our church has pastors assigned to each department, including kindergarten, elementary school, youth, English speaking congregation and administration, so that we can collaborate with lay ministers.  It is truly a great blessing to be able to work together with these many pastors in a church our size.  A few days ago while meeting and talking with pastors of other churches, when I shared about the situation in our church, none of them were able to hide their envy.

     In fact, many churches are unable to find English-speaking pastors.  For one thing, the number of seminarians and pastors has decreased significantly compared to before, and the number of existing pastors giving up their ministry and moving to other occupations are on the rise; more than anything, because few is the number of young seminarians or pastors in the English Speaking community who want to dedicate themselves to the immigrant church.  From the standpoint of our church, it is a great blessing to be able to fill the positions of each department from such scarcity of laborers.  Likewise, from the pastors’ points of view, there is no greater blessing than to be matched with the Lord’s Church where one can wholeheartedly, fulfill his or her calling for life. 

     All the pastors of our church will faithfully carry out their ministry with the mindset that they are the senior pastors of each of their departments.  Starting with pastor Charlie last week, I plan to have other pastors take turns writing the miracle column once a month.  This is to provide an opportunity to communicate not only within each of their own departments but also with the members of the entire church.  I believe that when pastors form close relationships with members through various communication methods, the members will appreciate and love the other pastors just like they have been valuing the senior pastor. 

     I am so grateful that there are already some members of our church who take care to find out and meet the physical and mental needs of the assistant pastors. “ Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.” (Galatians 6:6 NIV).  Our pastors are already receiving a kindness and love that is overflowing, and are always grateful and indebted.  It is one of the marks of a healthy church of Christ, that pastors and members thank and build each other up like this.  I believe that God will be proud of Miracleland Baptist Church.  We pray that our church will continue to raise God’s precious pastors and become a community of faith that respects and unites with each other in the love of Christ.
